Lamine is known as a kora player and virtuoso, author/composer and arranger. Born in Casamance, a multi-ethnic region of southern Senegal known for the rich diversity of cultures and musical traditions. Descending from a family of “griots” whose traditions date back to the 14th century, he began to play the kora with his father, master of the instrument his and was inspired by his great-uncle, the big Lalo Keba Drame.

His melodies and lyrics reflect the many diffrent musical worlds that he has been part of – with everything from the kora music to Swedish folk and modern afro-jazz groove.

9:30: Mpho Ludidi (ZA)
Born and raised in South Africa, Mpho Ludidi studied popular music at Central Johannesburg College. During his college years he joined the Afro Jazz legend Gloria Bosman who shared her wisdom in saying that, as a musician, you need to find your sound and when you do, run with it.

This has been Mpho’s goal until finally he found himself writing in a style that he could call his own; being inspired by the likes of Bobby McFerrin, Shaluza Max, Richard Bona and Lizz Wright, just to name a few. He describes his own music style simply as Afro Acoustic Soul. Tonight he’ll be playing solo with his trusty guitar and share his soulful music.

10:30: Cissokho-Ludidi Band
Following the two solo performances, get ready to dance! Lamine and Mpho have merged together a uniqe band to really get you into the groove. Together with Vlado Markovic on double-bass and Sal Dibba on percussion, they’ll turn up the tempo to really make you sweat. Energetic and dance-inspired music, with sounds from their different musical traditions, that won’t leave you disappointed. A fusion of top musicians that must be experienced live!
